DON CHERRY TRIO - PARIS 1971
Don Cherry is pretty much singly-handed responsible for my love of non-Western music (I qualify this statement with “pretty much” since Sun City Girls are also largely responsible for my disposition towards folk music not rooted in the blues or British folk). I recommend *every single album that he has recorded*, but in particular, his 70s output. Even the much maligned “Hear and Now” has its moments of absolute transcendence.
Also, I’m working on a post-grad degree that largely focuses on German idealism. I don’t throw around the term “transcendence” lightly.
